Get the right cover for your pick-up
If you’ve been struggling to find pick-up insurance, it could be because you’re looking in the wrong place – pick-ups are classed as vans rather than cars for insurance purposes, even though some people use them as an alternative to a car.
Pick-ups – vehicles with a front cab and an open cargo area at the back – are versatile vehicles used for trade and leisure activities alike.
What category of cover do I need?
We cover both single cab and double cab pick-ups, as well as lifestyle and commercial, and there's four types of cover:
2. Social and Commuting
3. Own Goods
Social is perfect for anyone using their pick-up for personal trips and not for commuting. If you use your pick-up for leisure activities requiring a bit more space or equipment – like fishing or surfing, for example – this category of cover is ideal.
Social and Commuting
Social and Commuting is the best category for anyone regularly driving to one place of work as well as taking leisure trips.
If you use your pick-up for business purposes, Own Goods is the category for you. Builders, plumbers and carpenters are all examples of tradesmen who might need this category.
If you need to carry tools and stock, you may need our Goods and Tools policy upgrade. This higher level of contents insurance specifically covers the tools and other items in your pick-up to recover costs if anything is damaged or stolen (but only if these things were locked away in a toolbox and not left in an open cargo area).
Haulage insurance covers anyone using their pick-up to deliver third party goods, making it perfect for furniture removers and couriers.
Levels of Pick-Up Insurance cover
While it might be tempting to pick the first cheap pick-up insurance policy you find, it’s important to think carefully about the level of cover you want. We offer three options:
- Third Party, Fire & Theft
- Third Party Only
This is the highest level of cover. It includes Third Party, Fire & Theft and pays out for repairs or a replacement pick-up if your vehicle is damaged maliciously or in an accident.
If you decide you don’t need Comprehensive cover, you can choose from Third Party, Fire & Theft or Third Party Only.
Third Party, Fire & Theft
Third Party, Fire & Theft protects your pick-up from damage caused by fire or theft only – it won’t pay out if it's damaged in another way such as a crash. If you're involved in an incident, however, Admiral will pay out to the other driver.
Third Party Only
This is the minimum level of cover required by law and protects you if you damage someone's property or injure them while driving. Third Party Only cover also protects any passengers if they’re injured in your pick-up, but it won’t pay out if it’s stolen or damaged in a fire.
