What is temporary car insurance?

Temporary car insurance is exactly that – motor cover that doesn’t last the full 12 months of a standard policy.

Cover can last anywhere from one day up to 30, so it’s perfect if you need to:

  • Borrow a car for the weekend
  • Pop out for a couple of hours to pick up something heavy or bulky
  • Temporarily use a family member’s car while yours is repaired

Should I get temporary car insurance when learning to drive?

If you have Admiral Car Insurance, you can temporarily add a provisional licence holder to your policy. This is great if you want to help your daughter or son practice when they’re learning to drive. You could also choose to add them on to your policy permanently as a named driver.

Another option is Learner Driver Insurance, so it’s worth investigating all three to see what works best for you.

Can I get temporary insurance if I already have an annual policy?

If you’re looking for Admiral Temporary Car Insurance, you must already be an Admiral Car Insurance customer – then you can amend your policy to add the temporary cover.

Veygo's temporary insurance can be used to to cover your own uninsured car. It can also be used if you need to temporarily drive someone else's car, as long as they have their own insurance in place.

Does temporary car insurance cover business use?

Admiral Temporary Car Insurance can include business use but Veygo’s temporary cover doesn’t include it.

Can I use temporary car insurance to drive in Europe?

You’re fine to drive in Europe with Admiral Temporary Car Insurance, but you can’t drive in Europe with Veygo’s temporary cover.
