Host Insurance

Cover for your home if it’s damaged by a paying guest

Host Insurance can be added to your Admiral Home Insurance

What is Host Insurance?

If you're one of the millions of people worldwide renting out your property on home sharing sites such as Airbnb, Wimdu, Onefinestay, and Homestay, you'll need specialist host insurance cover in place.

Not all home insurance policies offer the right cover for hosting paying guests in your home, and, for some, it could even invalidate your normal home insurance.

Though the number of people advertising their homes on these sites is on the rise, there's still some confusion among hosts over how offering your home for paid, short-term accommodation affects your insurance.

And we know shopping around for different types of insurance is a pain, which is we’ve created the simple host insurance bolt-on for homeowners to add to their new home insurance policies.

Flexible Home Insurance from Admiral

Choose from three levels of cover, each with a range of different features that you can tailor to suit you.

Our great value Home Insurance package covers the essentials.

Our popular Gold Home Insurance gives the value of Admiral cover with added extras.

Our full featured Platinum Home Insurance is for people who demand extra security and peace of mind.

What you'll get with Admiral Host Insurance

Designed for homeowners who make a bit of extra cash by renting out an empty room or their whole home on sites like Airbnb, host insurance offers you the extra cover needed for when a stranger is staying in your home.

What you get with Admiral’s host cover:

  1. Need to make a claim? Give us a call and we'll sort out the rest - you won't have to try and resolve the issue directly with your guests.
  2. Cover for paying guests in your home for a maximum of 90 days during your policy and no need to tell us every time you rent out your home.
  3. You can bolt our cover onto any of our tiers of home insurance – Admiral, Gold and Platinum.
  4. You’ll get up to £5,000 for your collective listed high-risk items if they’re stolen, vandalised, broken in a malicious act or suffer accidental damage when not locked in a safe or removed from your home.

With Admiral, the number of paying guests covered to stay in your home at one time can’t be more than double the number of bedrooms. So, for example, you can accept four paying guests in a two-bedroom property or a couple of guests in a one-bed.

The host insurance bolt-on can be added to any of our home insurance policies, with buildings, contents, accidental damage and home emergency cover offered depending on the level you need.

Do I need specific insurance to use Airbnb?

Your standard home insurance might not offer all the cover you need. You can add our Host Insurance bolt-on to any of our Home Insurance policies.

Some home-sharing sites offer cover when you list your home, but the level of protection varies from site to site so make sure you check the details carefully.

Here are three things you may want covered:

Buildings and contents insurance

If you're planning on listing your home on a home sharing site, you need to make sure your buildings and contents are covered, with Admiral Home Insurance you can choose cover:

  • Combined buildings and contents
  • Just buildings
  • Just contents

Accidental Damage Cover

Accidents happen, we all know that. Not having the right cover in place if something you love gets damaged would be very annoying and could leave you out of pocket which, is why you may want to consider our Accidental Damage Cover.

It comes as standard on our Platinum policies or can be added as an optional extra on our Admiral and Gold levels.

Home Emergency Cover

Offering up to £500 for a tradesperson to temporarily repair your central heating, hot water and plumbing, in an emergency. Plus, you’ll get unlimited callouts.

Home emergency comes as standard with our Platinum cover or can be added to the other tiers. Claims can be made seven days after the policy start date.
