The type of cover you need depends on what you’re using your van for. We have four different classes for you to choose from: Social, Social and Commuting, Own Goods and Carriage of goods for hire and reward which you can add to your private van insurance.
Using your van for personal trips and no commutes? Social cover’s what you’re looking for – it’s perfect if you plan to use your van for leisure activities that need a bit more space such as camping, kite surfing or fishing.
Commuting to work in your van, as well as the fun stuff? You’ll need Social and Commuting cover. You’ll be covered for travel to and from a single place of work.
Tradespeople such as builders, carpenters and plumbers who use their van for their work need Own Goods cover. This cover also suits people needing to drive between more than one place of work such as social workers or classroom assistants.
If you use a van to transport tools, stock or merchandise then look at our Vehicle Contents Cover policy upgrade (formerly known as Goods and Tools), like Goods in Transit insurance. It's a higher level of contents cover specifically covering the contents of your van; it’ll help you recover costs if the van's contents are stolen or damaged.
If you use your van to deliver third-party goods, you’ll need Carriage of goods for hire and reward. Perfect for couriers or furniture removers who earn money by using their van for deliveries of third-party goods.

You’ll also need to decide whether you want Comprehensive, Third Party, Fire & Theft cover or Third Party Only cover.
Comprehensive cover is the highest level of cover you can buy; it includes Third Party, Fire & Theft and will pay out to repair or replace your van if it's damaged in an accident or suffers malicious damage.
The next level protects your van from damage caused by fire or theft but not if it’s damaged in another way such as a crash. Admiral will pay out to the other driver if you're involved in an incident.
This is the minimum cover you can get and will protect you if you cause damage to someone's property or you injure them while driving. Third Party Only cover will also protect your passengers if they suffer an injury while they're in your van but won’t pay out if your van’s stolen or damaged in a fire.
Just like car insurance, van insurance for under 25s can be expensive due to the driver’s lack of experience. If you find young driver van insurance quotes are too expensive, you might want to consider a black box policy.
Admiral’s LittleBox policy is perfect for young and new drivers who are safe on the roads and can drive well enough to earn a discounted renewal price.
As well as offering cheaper prices for the safest drivers, our black box insurance also comes with a free theft tracker fitted, so we can help police find your van if it’s ever stolen.
Another way you could save money is by adding all the vans and cars in your household onto one policy.
MultiCover not only takes the hassle out of remembering all the vehicles' renewal dates in your household - they’ll renew on the same date - each vehicle you add gets its own discount!
They don’t have to all be yours – you can add mum or dad’s car, and you don’t even need to live at the same address as your immediate family to benefit from MultiCover.
You can chat about this option with one of our friendly team during your quote.
