You may be a short-term carer or looking after someone long term.
We understand that on top of everything you do as a carer, you might also look after someone's finances or insurance.
Short-term care is, as the name suggests, a temporary situation.
You may have had a friend or family member who has had serious surgery, and you're supporting them through their recovery.
This might be helping them with physical or speech therapy, or it could be managing everyday things like their laundry and meals while they get back on their feet.
Long-term care is when the vulnerable person you’re caring for has a lifelong or chronic illness.
It may even be a degenerative condition, which means it will steadily get worse over time.
This means you could be a carer for a long period of time - years or even decades.
Whether you're a short or a long-term carer, we want to be able to make things as easy as possible for you.
If you're managing the policy on behalf of someone who needs extra support, you can appoint yourself as a trusted contact. This means we'll be able to discuss the policy directly with you.
To appoint yourself as a trusted contact, all you need to do is contact us so we can authorise you and go through the permissions you would like to assign to yourself.
We'll check whether you'd like to apply permissions to all active policies with us (if applicable) or just certain products. We would also need the person to authorise you as a trusted contact.
Permissions include any combination of the following: policy changes, policy updates, updating payment, discussing claims, cancelling the policy.
You can get in contact to chat the situation through with us.
Or you can fill out an extra support webform on behalf of the person you're caring for, so we can work out how to support you both best.
If the person you’re caring for passes away, we understand it can be very difficult thinking about the next steps.
Head to our bereavement page, where we discuss how we can support you when a loved one passes.
