You might want to consider adding Admiral’s excess waiver cover to your travel insurance policy.

Check out our guide below on excess waiver cover and the benefits of including it in your policy.

What does excess mean in travel insurance?

An excess is the amount of money you pay to your insurance provider if you make a claim on your travel insurance policy.

Excesses are paid per person and per section of the claim.

For example, if your excess is £75, you're claiming for a trip cancellation for two travellers named on your policy and you paid £600 for your trip, you'll receive £450 once your excess has been deducted.

That’s because the excess for two people is £150, and this is deducted from the £600.

What does excess waiver cover mean?

An excess waiver cover makes sure that you don’t have to pay any excess when making a claim. You pay a small amount upfront when you buy your policy, which removes any excess costs during a claim, unless the claim event occurred before the policy began.

When can I add excess waiver cover?

At Admiral, we give customers the option to add our excess waiver cover to their policy within the first 14 days of taking out or renewing their policy.

This cover will only apply to claims made after it has been added to the policy.

When does excess not apply to a travel insurance policy?

An excess isn't applicable to claims made for:

  • delayed baggage
  • delayed flights
  • personal accident
  • funeral expenses abroad
  • repatriation of remains (returning a person to their country)
  • hijack (hijack cover applies on Platinum tier cover only)

How do I get excess waiver cover?

It's easy to add excess waiver cover to your Admiral travel insurance policy! You can add it online through the Travel portal or by contacting our helpful Customer Service team.

Is it worth getting excess waiver cover?

It can be beneficial to get excess waiver cover because if you make a claim, you won’t have to pay any excesses up front and no excess costs will be deducted from your total claim payout.

Excess waiver cover is also worthwhile if you were to make a small claim. This is because no excess will be deducted, which can sometimes be more than the cost of the claim itself. At Admiral, there are two types of travel insurance policies to suit your needs – Single Trip or Annual travel insurance – excess waiver cover can be added to both!

Whether you’re treating yourself to a holiday break, travelling with family or going on a winter sports holiday, it’s important that you do the research to make sure you have the right type of travel insurance to protect you if anything goes wrong.
