LittleBox Pod

Drive safe and save money - it's that easy

LittleBox Pod is designed to reward safe drivers with a better price when it's time to renew.

What is LittleBox Pod?

LittleBox Pod is one of our black box insurance  products. It’s a small Bluetooth device that fits to your windscreen, pairs with your smartphone, and records your car journeys.

The device measures things like your speed and acceleration. You'll then get feedback on your driving in the Admiral app, to help you improve and keep you safe.

If you're a safe driver, you're more likely to get a better discount when it's time to renew your insurance.

How to install your LittleBox Pod?

LittleBox Pod is easy and quick to install. You can do it yourself with no fuss.

Step 1

Your LittleBox Pod will arrive in the post a few days after your policy starts.

Step 2

Connect the LittleBox Pod via the Admiral app.

Step 3

Stick it to your windscreen behind your rear-view mirror and off you go!

If you don't link up your device and take a trip within 15 days, your discount will be removed and you'll need to pay an extra charge.

Watch our how-to guide

How does LittleBox Pod work?

LittleBox Pod uses your phone's GPS to collect data on how you drive.

Your score is averaged out over time, so you don't need to be a perfect driver to get a good score.

The safer you drive, the better your renewal price is likely to be.

What does LittleBox Pod measure?

Here's what your driving score gets based on.

Speeding

The device will measure the speed you're driving. So keep an eye on how fast you drive and stay within the speed limit.

Braking

We'll look at how harshly you brake, so be careful to brake smoothly and in plenty of time.

Acceleration

Don't accelerate too quickly when speeding up. Instead, go slow before gradually building up speed to show you're in full control of your car.

Phone use

Using your phone while driving is dangerous and will impact your score. If you use it for directions, put it up in a cradle on your dashboard and set up your route before you set off. Don't let your passengers use your phone either - this will affect your score.

The time of day you drive

While there isn't a curfew, driving at night (between 10pm and 4am) will lower your driving score. If you regularly drive at night, LittleBox Pod might not be right for you.

For more information on how we collect your driving data, check out your policy book.

It's important to remember that if your driving is extremely unsafe and you consistently have a poor score, we will cancel your policy.

How do I get my feedback?

You'll get your feedback through the app. You'll be able to see every trip you've taken and each week we'll update your driving score for you to check.

Good

You're driving well - nothing to worry about!

Average

You're doing okay! Use our driving tips to help boost your score.

Poor

Your driving is very poor and your policy could be cancelled.

We'll give you regular tips on how you could improve your score.

Got any questions?

How do I set up my LittleBox Pod?

Once your device has arrived in the post, it's time to set it up. Here's what to do next:

  1. Download the Admiral app.
  2. Log in to the app with your user ID and password.
  3. When you're in your car, follow the instructions in the app to pair it to your LittleBox Pod.
  4. Stick the device to your windscreen, making sure it doesn't block your view.

If your Pod hasn't arrived just yet, you can keep driving normally - it'll be with you soon!

I can't link my Pod to the Admiral App

There are a few reasons why your Pod and the Admiral app aren't linking up like they should.
Try these steps if you're having trouble:

  1. Make sure the Pod is close to your phone, within 2 metres.
  2. Log out of the app, then log back in and try again.
  3. When linking the Pod, press the button once so the red light shows. Wait for the Pod to link to the app. Pressing the button lots of times while it's linking could make it fail.

If you've still not had any luck, head to our contact us page. You can drop us a message or give us a call and we'll be on hand to help.

Do I need to keep the Admiral app installed on my phone?

Yes, you need to keep the app installed. Your LittleBox Pod won't work without it.

Do I need to keep the Admiral app open while I drive?

No! The Pod will be able to work as long as you:

  • have the Admiral app installed
  • have Bluetooth turned on
  • have set your location permissions to 'always'

How do I tell if my LittleBox Pod is working?

Your Pod's working if the light turns on when you hold down the button, and if your trips show up in the app.

It normally takes about 21 days to get your first driving score, but you'll start getting feedback before then. If there are any issues, we'll be in touch.

If I uninstall the Admiral app, will you still collect my driving data?

No. If you uninstall the app, we won't be able to collect your driving data. That means you might be at risk of losing your discount, and we could even cancel your policy.

My child might use my phone while I'm driving. Will this affect my driving score?

Yes, it would.

That's because your phone becomes your telematics device while you're driving. That means it's monitoring how safely you drive, including whether you use your phone.

If you let a passenger or your child use it, they'll affect your driving score.

You should keep it safe and secure in a cradle or holder during your journey.

I need to use headphones while I'm driving for work - is that okay?

That's fine! Just connect your headphones before you set off and don't touch the screen while you're driving.

How much battery will the app use?

The amount of battery it uses depends on the model of your phone. But it generally uses about the same amount of battery as any other driving navigation apps.

We suggest charging your phone while driving if you're taking a long trip. The Pod will automatically stop recording your trips when:

  • your phone battery is at 20% or lower
  • you've got battery saving mode on

What happens if I change my phone?

Don't worry if you get a new phone.

All you need to do is download the Admiral app on your new phone and log in like you did before.

How can I not get distracted by my phone while driving?

Having your phone in your hand while driving is distracting and dangerous.

To stay safe while you drive, you should:

  1. Keep your phone secured in a cradle or holder - just make sure it doesn't obstruct your view.
  2. Keep any calls hands-free - use Bluetooth to answer or make any calls.
  3. Don't let passengers use your phone - if they want to choose the music, get them to connect their own phone to your car!

Remember, if you use your phone out of a cradle, it'll also affect your driving score.

Can I drive my car before LittleBox Pod is installed?

Yes, you can drive as soon as your cover starts.

My device hasn’t arrived

We'll send you a text message when your LittleBox Pod is dispatched. We'll send it via Royal Mail signed-for delivery.

It should arrive within 48 hours. If it doesn't, please contact us straight away.

Do you share my data with the police?

We won't release information about your driving data to the police or other authorities unless:

  • you consent to it
  • we're required to by law or by an appropriate request from an authorised authority
  • fraud is suspected

If my score is bad, will you increase my price?

We'll never increase your price during your policy term. When it's time to renew, we'll use your driving data to work out if your renewal price will be discounted or increased.

What happens if I change my car?

Just remove your LittleBox Pod from your old car and fit it in the same place in your new car.
