Black box, or Telematics, is a type of car insurance which comes with a small box being fitted in your car. This device looks at your driving style and measures things like braking and speed. It offers you a chance to show your car insurance company you're a safe driver and your renewal price is based on how safely you drive.
Will I be on a curfew and penalised for driving at certain times?
There is no curfew with LittleBox. Of course, there are certain times of the day when accidents are more likely to occur, like at night. But you won't be charged a fee for driving in the night with LittleBox. However, if your job requires a lot of late night driving then LittleBox may not be the best option for you as you may not get as big a discount if you always drive at night.Find out more about LittleBox
If I'm in an accident will Admiral use the data to prove I was to blame?
We wouldn't use LittleBox to prove you were to blame. But if you're in a non-fault accident you can use the data from your black box to prove you weren't speeding or if you were stationary when hit. Admiral is all about giving our customers the best service possible.Find out more about LittleBox
Will LittleBox track where I drive in real-time?
While LittleBox collects your location information, the emphasis is on how you drive not where. And the really clever bit is that our black box is fitted with a tracker, so if your car’s stolen we'll be able to help track its location.Find out more about LittleBox
Will having a 'black box' fitted void my car's warranty?
LittleBox will not affect your car's warranty. It does need to be installed but it's fitted out-of-sight behind your dashboard and not plugged into the diagnostics port.Find out more about LittleBox
Will LittleBox mess with my music?
LittleBox is completely safe and does not interfere with your car. We're not interested in how loud you like to listen to your music while you drive, we just want to reward good drivers. Like any electronic device it uses a little bit of electricity from the battery, but as long your car is driven normally this won't cause a problem.Find out more about LittleBox
Will the way I drive make my premiums go up?
You can monitor your driving score through your feedback and pick up tips to help you drive safely and get the best discount.
When it's time for your policy renewal, we'll look at your driving data and work out a price based on how well you have driven. The majority of our LittleBox customers will receive a discount at renewal.Find out more about LittleBox
Will you tell my parents where I drive?
No, as the policyholder only you will have access to the online dashboard that shows you when the car is driven. You can log in whenever you want and the dashboard won't show the location of driving done, only the times of the journeys.Find out more about LittleBox
What if a bad driver borrows my car?
Your driving score is worked out as an average during the policy, so shouldn't have an overall negative effect if the car is used by another person once in a while. But, if they aren't up to your standards - tell them!Find out more about LittleBox
Will you tell the police if I was committing a speeding offence?
Admiral does not inform the police if the data collected suggests you were just committing a speeding offence. We will only share data if a police inquiry is made or a serious incident has occurred.Find out more about LittleBox

How big is the box and will my friends know I have one?
LittleBox is fitted out-of-sight behind your car's dashboard so no one will know you have the unit fitted unless you tell them.Find out more about LittleBox
Will I be fined if I go over my estimated mileage?
At the start of your policy we'll ask you to estimate your annual mileage and we'll periodically check how much mileage you have covered and if you're on track to meet your estimate. There is no monthly mileage limit.
If after 2 months it looks as though you're going to go over the estimate by 25% or more we'll adjust your mileage and your premium could go up. However, we will contact you before making any changes. If you are charged and don't end up using the new estimated miles we'll refund you at renewal.
You can log into your LittleBox Dashboard to keep track of how many miles you've done versus how many miles you estimated so you can see if you're getting close to your declared limit.Find out more about LittleBox
How will I know how well I'm driving?
With LittleBox you get access to a personalised Dashboard which shows you a heap of useful information about your driving. You'll see your overall score, your mileage, a list of your journeys and average speed. We'll also give you handy tips on how to improve your driving to help you get the best score and the best discount possible at renewal.
You'll also be able to see a record of how your score has progressed over time.
To access your dashboard go to the www.admiral.com, click on the Existing Customers tab in the top right of the screen and log-in to your documents portal. Once you are logged in you should find a link to the LittleBox Dashboard.Find out more about LittleBox
Will the black box distract me when I'm driving?
No, LittleBox is a small unit fitted out-of-sight behind your car's dashboard. It isn't like some driving apps that you have to activate before setting off, once it's fitted you can forget it's there and drive as normal. You won't see the box again and you won't hear a peep from it.

Do I need to remove the black box before I sell or scrap my car?
No, if you are selling your car or getting it scrapped you don't need to worry about getting LittleBox removed. We will not physically remove the box from your car, just give us a call and we will remotely deactivate the box. There's no fee if this is done at renewal but if you'd prefer to have the box removed there is a £100 engineer's fee.Find out more about LittleBox
Can I switch off LittleBox when I'm driving in Europe?
LittleBox customers are covered to drive in Europe and we wouldn't switch off the box while you're on holiday. Although speed limits may differ in Europe to the UK, speed is just one of the many factors in your driving data that is analysed to give you the best price at renewal.Find out more about LittleBox
What happens to my data after the policy finishes?
We only use your data to tailor any future insurance premiums for you. If you decide to cancel your policy we remove all your personal information from the LittleBox data and use it to improve the products and services we offer. But don't worry, we use thousands of people's data for this and you can't be identified in any way.
