  • Voluntary excess - this is the amount you chose when you bought your policy. You pay it on top of your compulsory excess.

Water leak damage

Good to know

This part of your cover is sometimes known as 'escape of water'. It just means when water leaks from things like pipes or appliances in your home and causes damage. For example, from radiators, water pipes, washing machines or dishwashers.

Please check these things before you make your claim:

Are you a leaseholder?

If you're a leaseholder, the freeholder or buildings management company might already insure the structure of your building. If you have any issues with the structure of your home, get in touch with them and they should be able to help.

Contents only insurance is just for the stuff inside your home - like furniture and white goods. It also covers the fixtures and fittings if you're a tenant or leaseholder. But it doesn't cover you for any loss or damage to the building itself.

For example, say you're a leaseholder and the flat above has a leak. If that leak damages your ceiling, your contents insurance policy won't cover you.

Do you have Home Emergency cover?

If you've got a leak and can see where it's coming from, Home Emergency cover can help out with a temporary repair until it can be sorted properly.

Heads up, you have to report your claim within 4 days of finding the issue.

We have a supplier who helps us out with these claims. To make a Home Emergency claim, please use our supplier's portal. You can find this in the 'Emergency Help' section in MyAccount.

  • snow to a depth of at least 30cm in 24 hours
  • hail that causes damage to hard surfaces or breaks glass
