What’s the true cost of moving?
Whether you’re renting or buying, the cost of moving to a new home can soon add up.
Everyone knows that moving to a new house or flat can be expensive. If you’re buying or renting a home, there are various fees to pay. But one thing people tend to forget is the actual cost of moving.
We mean things like paying for a removal company or van hire. In fact our research found that 35% of Brits admit they could have done more research into the cost of moving home and 5% admit they were completely unprepared for the costs.
If your new home is looking a bit grubby or tired, you might also want to get in a decorator and cleaning specialist. And maybe the dates you have to leave your old home and move to your new one don’t match up, so you could need to pay for storage.
The expense can soon mount up, so what’s the real cost of moving? The people we surveyed estimated these additional costs came to £788 last time they moved home, that’s on top of all the fees.
We’ve looked at a range of services and compared costs across the country so you can see for yourself just how much moving home could cost you where you live.
If you're getting ready to move house, check out our ultimate moving home checklist, which covers everything you need to do from one month before your move date, up until the actual moving day.
