Make, model, money – the three ‘Ms’ you need to consider when buying a car, unsurprisingly ‘M’ number three seems to matter most!
From the car itself, to taxing, insuring and keeping it maintained, car ownership doesn’t come cheap which is why finding any way you can to keep costs low is always a bonus.
With that in mind we asked the guys in Admiral’s Pricing team just what are the cheapest cars for drivers under the age of 25 to insure?
Clever though they are, the Pricing guys weren’t quite able to predict the perfect car insurance-wise for every 18-year-old, but they were nice enough to give us a list of the top 10 cheapest on average for drivers under the age of 25 between October and December 2015.
1. Dacia Sandero average price £632.58 per year
Roomy inside and reasonable to run, what more could you want? The Sandero is rated three out of five by car expert WhatCar?, who describes it as a: “likeable car which offers more space than anything else in the same price range.”
2. Volkswagen Fox average price £644.41 per year
This foxy little number is the cheapest in the VW range so, while it may not be as hi-tech as some models, it does have the instantly recognisable look of a VW car. The Fox was discontinued in 2010 to make way for the up! but you can pick up a second hand model from that year for around £2,995.
3. Nissan Qashqai average price £656.70 per year
Ah, so this one may come as a surprise – it’s not all teeny hatchbacks and city-cars. The Qashqai is a family hatchback designed to look like a bigger, off-road-ready SUV. With this car you’ll have plenty of space on the inside and the added bonus is it looks quite sporty too.
4. Citroen C1 average price £658.05 per year
If you like the thought of adding a splash of colour to your motor then the C1 may be for you. They come in a range of colours from Caldera Black to Scarlet Red and you can even choose a two-tone option which has a contrasting roof.
5. Toyota Aygo average price £659.39 per year
Like the Citroen C1, the Aygo has a cool sporty look and is completely customisable with the help of two exterior styling packs. Described by many as nippy and agile, this is the ideal car for daily city driving.
6. Fiat 500 average price £660.26 per year
Who doesn’t love a Fiat 500? It has the benefit of looking retro without the expensive parts and potential unreliability of a classic car. It is small but then small does mean easy to park which is always a plus in our book. The 500 is probably the cutest car around!
7. Fiat Panda average price £661.87 per year
While the Fiat 500 might be the cutest car to look at, the Fiat Panda has definitely got the sweetest name. Boxier than the Fiat 500 but just as nice to drive, this is a great car if you’re looking for something to get you to and from work or college every day.
8. Peugeot 107 average price £662.83 per year
The Peugeot 107 was given a makeover in 2012 and shares the same chassis as the Citroen C1 and Toyota Aygo as the three brands chose to develop them together. Ideal for those travelling light, but with limited boot space this may not be the best choice for any golfers out there!
9. Hyundai i10 average price £664.02 per year
WhatCar? describes it as cheap to buy and run – two big ticks in our book. It also gives it a five star rating and calls it the best city car around, which is high praise indeed from the font of all car-related knowledge!
10. Hyundai i30 average price £665.51 per year
Bigger, and therefore more expensive than its little brother the i10, the i30 has plenty of space and comes with a five-year, unlimited mileage warranty. This is a car which looks good and has plenty of space to move around inside.
The insurance prices quoted are the average premiums for drivers aged 25 and below between October and December 2015 and specifically from Admiral, so if you are looking for insurance make sure you get a quote with us before you buy.
