1. Nissan Qashqai - £646.25 per year
It still holds the top spot for this category and just goes to show it doesn’t have to be all about tiny boot space and no rear leg room to get the cheapest insurance price. It’s more expensive to buy than most city cars, but, this urban-crossover more than makes up for it with its sporty handling and tonnes of tech.
2. Seat Mii - £668.83 per year
This tiny city car has bumped the Volkswagen Fox from second place! With great fuel efficiency, NCAP safety rating and many customizable options, every Mii can provide over and above what you need. Seat currently have an offer where you can save £500 if you take a test drive.
3. Fiat 500 - £673.27 per year
Coming in third is the Fiat 500. This quirky city run-around has become one of the most popular cars on UK roads, and it’s no surprise why. Italian retro styling inside and out, along with superb engine choices make this car equally fun to drive as to look at. With a wide array of design options this city car can suit everybody’s preferences, or just stand out from the crowd!
4. Citroen C1 - £681.86 per year
Jumping up two spots is this cute city-car. The new design has really enhanced the look and the choice of colours in a dual tone option means the ability for unique styles are endless. With options of keyless go, reversing camera and touch screen, the C1 is a tech box on wheels.
5. Ford Ka - £682.09 per year
Sliding on up to 5th place from 9th is the smallest model from Ford. Still keeping to its roots with the old design, Ford has gone on to create a car that is cheap to run, easy to drive and has excellent build quality. Overall, the Ford Ka remains a very attractive proposition.
6. Mazda 2 - £684.92 per year
New to our top 10 list, the Mazda 2 provides a healthy balance of efficiency and performance. With lots of tech and plenty of character, this car should offer a real thrill to any young driver. Proving big fun can come in small packages, the nimble city-car is also safety conscious with the Smart City Brake Support on selected models.
7. Volkswagen Up! - £685.32 per year
Another newbie to the list, the Up! There are three different models to choose from and they start at just £8,995. The new trim Beats up! offers a new 300 watt sound system, a bundle of new decals and hugely impressive performance figures! Available in three or five doors, this city-car boasts one of the most iconic and recognizable shapes of the Supermini generation.
8. Skoda Citigo - £695.63 per year
Compact and agile are two perfect words to describe this little run around. It’s spacious too, with enough room for two adults in the rear seats and a sizeable boot when there aren’t. It was also named What Car? 2017 Best city car under £10,000.
9. Kia Rio - £703.21 per year
The new Kia Rio has knocked its predecessor off of 9th place! Bluetooth audio, air-con and loads of standard equipment can be found on the cheapest base model. All of this and KIA’s renowned seven year warranty means there surely has to be a catch – but there isn’t!
10. Peugeot 107 - £703.68 per year
Bringing up the final spot is the 107, another new member to the club. One of the best selling Peugeot models out there, due to its natural ability to squeeze into the tiniest of parking spaces around town and act like a much larger car on the open road. With a similar design to the previous C1 and Toyota Aygo models, this 107 can vouch for its credentials with huge sales figures.
