Family Fun Films

Were you brought up on classic musical movies or old-fashioned fantasy quests? Do your kids love animated epics or special effects packed adventures? Well, we wanted to find out just what films families like to watch so asked parents what they thought were the best family films of all time. And we compiled the opinions of 3,000 parents to bring you the top 20 favourite family films of all time:

  1. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
    The second film in the Pirates of the Caribbean series sees Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) continuing his swashbuckling adventures alongside Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley).
  2. Peter Pan
    This Walt Disney classic based on the characters created by J. M. Barrie sees three children whisked off to Never Land by the boy who never grew up, Peter Pan. Never Land is home to a variety of characters including Tinkerbell the fairy and the evil Captain Hook who seeks revenge on Peter Pan for cutting off his hand which now lives inside the tick-tocking crocodile.
  3. Shrek
    Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz bring the world of ogres, talking donkeys and fairy tales to life in the first of the Shrek series.
  4. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
    The first of the Pirates of the Caribbean films sees Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) team up with Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) to rescue Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) from the crew of the chilling Black Pearl.
  5. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
    Based on Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory novel, it sees Gene Wilder in the lead role giving some lucky children a tour of his magical factory - but can they keep their greed at bay?
  6. Mary Poppins
    Julie Andrews is the enchanting nanny who flies in to look after some unhappy children, and takes them on a fantasy journey introducing them to dancing chimney sweeps and bottomless bags.
  7. The Wizard of Oz
    A tornado whisks Dorothy (Judy Garland) and her dog Toto to a magical land where she meets some memorable friends in her quest to get home. However, the Wicked Witch of the West has other ideas.
  8. Toy Story
    Woody's (Tom Hanks) place as his owner's favourite toy is under threat from Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), but can he overcome this jealousy so that they don't both end up lost when his owner's family move?
  9. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
    The third film in the Pirates of the Caribbean series sees the evil Lord Cutler Beckett in possession of Davy Jones' heart and uses his power in an attempt to wipe out all pirate ships. However Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) have other ideas.
  10. Free Willy
    A young boy strikes up a special relationship with an Orca called Willy who's under threat from his owners who have awful plans from him, but can the boy save Willy by freeing him in time?
