Gone are the days of diesels being slow, boring and a compromise to save on fuel costs. Now, with the range of diesel hot hatches on the market, the words that should be associated with them are quick, great fun and a terrific choice when wanting to save fuel. To make them more attractive, Admiral can save you money when insuring them.

Admiral looked at 3 of the leading contenders for the diesel hot hatch crown - the Seat Leon TDI PD Cupra, the VW Golf GT TDI, and the Vauxhall Astra CDTi SRi. All have strikingly similar vital statistics with 0-60mph times ranging from 8.3 seconds for the Astra and 9.3 for the Golf, and top speeds ranging from 126mph for the Golf to 134mph for the Seat.

But how do the costs vary when looking to insure these vehicles? For a 30 year old male marketing manager living in Fulham, the Seat comes in at £418.95, the Golf at £388.50, and the Astra at a low £304.50. Admiral also looked at some of its competitors, and discovered quite a range of prices:

The 3 cars have an average combined MPG figure of over 50, so won't cost you a fortune in fuel, and so, along with the low insurance costs, make them a definite alternative to their petrol equivalents."
