With many young people embarking on student life this month, insurance specialist, Admiral has helped them identify the cheapest car to insure.
The Vauxhall Corsa Club 12V came top of the list, followed by the Ford KA and the Ford KA2.
Admiral MD, Sue Longthorn said, “Being a full-time student can be a financially straining time, with only a student loan and perhaps the money from a part time job to rely on.
“Your student car is unlikely to be a brand new one, but on a positive note, this means that you can look forward to more affordable insurance cover.”
Students tend to choose older cars with the average age being eight years old. With only 1.7% of students driving brand new cars*, Admiral has taken four average students and calculated out how much it would cost to insure the Vauxhall Corsa Club for a year.

A student who appreciates the value of an older car is Robert Douglas MacRae. Robert is 22 years old, studying at Queen Mary University in London and he drives a 1992 Peugeot 205 CJ.
He said. “I have an older car as I hoped it would be cheaper to insure but I also wanted that specific model. I'm lucky that I love older, classic cars more than newer models as this means my car insurance is much more affordable.”
Despite the Vauxhall Corsa being the cheapest to insure, Ford still remains the students' favourite, with more students driving Fiestas than any other car. The Corsa ranked second, followed by the Renault Clio, the Volkswagen Polo and the Ford Ka.
