Car insurance specialist, Admiral is now including a free European Certificate with all its policies, enabling its customers to be covered to drive throughout most countries in Europe.
Previously, Admiral customers who wanted to take their car to the continent had to pay between £9 and £34.50 for a Green Card, depending how long they needed cover for. However, from this week Admiral is including a European Certificate with all new policies.
Existing customers will also be covered to drive in Europe, but they will have to contact Admiral beforehand, who will issue a European Certificate at no extra charge.
Sue Longthorn, Admiral managing director, said, "We decided to include the European Certificate in our policies following feedback from our customers. For any of them driving in Europe this summer, our decision should leave them with a little bit more spending money."
Under the terms of Admiral's European Certificate, policyholders have cover for up to 90 days within a year, although they will need to let the insurer know if they plan to drive in Europe for more than 30 days in one trip.
Sue Longthorn, said, "We don't cover more than 90 days a year because if people are travelling in Europe for longer than that, they really need to get specific European cover. "
Under Admiral's European Certificate, motorists are covered to drive in all European Union countries, Norway, Croatia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Andorra, San Marino, Liechtenstein, Monaco and Iceland. For other countries, Admiral policyholders should contact the insurer first. The certificate extends the same level of cover their policy provides in the UK while driving in these countries.
As well as the European Certificate, Admiral policies include a range of benefits including legal expenses cover, guaranteed courtesy car, windscreen cover and personal injury cover.
