You could reduce the risk of a break-in to your home by following our home security tips. By taking these precautions you could also improve your chances of getting a cheap home insurance quote!
Look at your home as a burglar would:
Would you be able to get in without your keys? If you could, then so could a burglar
Could a burglar break in without being seen?
Could they break in without making a lot of noise?
Ways to reduce the risk of a burglary at your home (and get a cheaper home insurance quote!):
Doors
Fit strong locks to all your external doors; 5-lever Mortise locks configured to British Standard BS3621 offer improved security and meet insurance standards
Ensure all doors and frames are in good condition
Remove all keys from locks and kept in a safe place when the home is unoccupied and at night
Windows
Fit locks to all external windows and keep them locked with keys removed when the house is unoccupied
Ensure all casements and frames are in good condition
If possible, use laminated glass as this is much more difficult to break than ordinary glass
Alarms
Many burglars will not try and break in to a house with an alarm
Get an alarm fitted by a National Security Inspectorate (NACOSS) or Security Systems & Alarm Inspection Board registered company
Consider having a monitored alarm system fitted, as police may not respond to an audible-only alarm unless they have received confirmation of suspicious activity
Neighbourhood Watch
Join your local Neighbourhood Watch Scheme, or if there isn't one in place locally consider starting up your own
By applying these tips you may be able to reduce the risk of burglary to your home, and reduce the cost of your home insurance!
