The Red Bull F1 team has unveiled its new title-defending car, the RB8, to the general public.
The car was launched with the aid of both the team's drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Marc Webber, at their Milton Keynes factory. Featuring technology far beyond that of a vehicle owned by the average motorist and car insurance policy holder, the RB8 represents the next-generation supercar.
Red Bull dominated the 2011 Formula One season, with Vettel taking the drivers title for the second year running and the team winning the constructors championship. The team finished the season with 650 points, 153 ahead of their nearest rival, McLaren.
Unfortunately, the new regulations for a lower nose have meant, along with many other teams, Red Bull have had to style the car's nose in a less than attractive fashion.
"We've kept more or less the same chassis shape, but had to drop the nose just in front of the front bulkhead which, in common with many other teams, has led us to a slightly ugly looking nose," Red Bull head designer Adrian Newey told the BBC.
"We've tried to style it as best we can, but it's not a feature you would choose to put in were it not for the regulation," he added.
2011 World Champion Sebastian Vettel was very upbeat about his new car saying: "The first time I jumped into the car for the seat fit - checking the position, checking your pedals, see if everything works - I think it was the same for Mark and myself, we felt extremely comfortable."
"Everything went well and we got our comfortable position, fairly quickly. The RB8 was pretty straightforward, so we hope it continues that way."
The first race of the F1 season will be the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, starting on the 18th of March.
