The 1948 MG TC Bob Douglas bought 45 years ago for£150 has paid for itself several times over and taken him and wife Lynne Douglas all around the world - and now it's about to embark on the longest trip of its life.
True roadmasters, Bob and Lynne have taken the vintage British sports car to Australia, as well as both North and South America, in the past, but this will be the longest drive for the trio, starting in Yorkshire but ending up in New Zealand with the faithful vehicle.
"We'll be going through Europe, heading down through Venice and then through the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and entering Russia between June 14 and 17," Lynne told theYorkshire Post. "We're then driving up through St Petersburg, down to Moscow, through Siberia and crossing into Mongolia. We'll then drive west to east, ending up in Ulan Bator and then south east to the border with China."
"We'll spend 31 days driving in China, following the road down south into Laos and then north Thailand, We'll pop into Cambodia, where we want to see Angkor Wat, then south into Malaysia and into Singapore, from where we'll ship the cars to New Zealand."
The couple admits others have referred to their upcoming quest as completely mad and acknowledge the car will likely break down several times throughout the journey. However, when compared to modern cars, the MG TC would be easier for the couple - or mechanics in foreign countries - to fix, they said.
