A candidate who paid an impersonator to take a driving theory test in his place has been jailed for 13 months.
Nwzad Ali Suleman, from the Forest Fields area of Nottingham, was given the sentence by Sheffield Crown Court for his fraudulent attempt to acquire a driving licence.
According to the Driving Standards Agency (DSA), staff at the test centre became suspicious of the imposter's identity after noticing that his signature did not match that of Suleman.
When he was unable to provide any other identification, the test was cancelled.
And although the imposter walked free from the scene, Suleman was later arrested when he tried to sit a theory test at a Watford test centre.
The DSA is warning that anyone who tries to fraudulently acquire a licence by sending others in their place can expect "ever-increasing, tough custodial sentences".
DSA head of fraud and integrity Andrew Rice said: "Candidates who believe they can simply pay for a driving licence without taking the full driving test to prove that they meet the required standard to drive on our roads need to know what a serious offence this is, and be fully aware of the penalties it carries."
Last week, a driving instructor was jailed for his part in encouraging four unqualified instructors to provide driving tuition.
