London has the best taxi service of any capital in the world even if it is also the most expensive, a new poll suggests.
The survey by Hotels.com put London firmly in front with 33% of the vote amongst European international travellers - the second year running that the capital has come out on top.
Of the 1,400 respondents, almost twice as many voted for London as for second-placed New York. Berlin, Madrid and Copenhagen made up the remainder of the top five.
As well as having the overall favourite service, London cab drivers were voted top for knowledge of their city, friendliness and safety-consciousness.
However, London's service was also clearly found to be the priciest, attracting 21% of the vote.
Welcoming the results, chairman of the Licensed Taxi Drivers Association John Thomas said: "London's taxi drivers must dedicate three years to completing the knowledge training to qualify as a London taxi driver, and that commitment is vital to offering the very best customer service.
"This is what makes London's taxi service stand out from New York, Paris and every other major city."
Other results suggest that Paris has the rudest drivers (16%), New York the worst drivers (9%) and Athens the dirtiest taxis (11%).
