Motorists are being reminded that children can be hurt if left unattended in a car, even in only moderately warm conditions.
Earlier this week, firefighters smashed their way into a car in Huddersfield, where a one-year-old girl had been left alone. A 51-year-old man was subsequently arrested by police on suspicion of neglect.
"Unfortunately, we do hear of cases like this every summer," said Carl Christopher of safety campaign group RoSPA.
"We recommend that drivers never leave young children unattended in vehicles, for quite a number of reasons. Children can hurt themselves in other ways, and there's the risk of them putting the car in motion and hurting other people too," he added.
The UK is experiencing one of its warmest Aprils in the last 10 years, with much of the UK seeing sunshine and above-average temperatures.
Last year in France, two young children were killed in separate incidents within a week, after being left alone in hot cars. And in the USA, cases where busy parents forget that their child is in the car are thought to account for between 15 and 25 fatal incidents every year.
