The BBC has admitted that an electric car filmed grinding to a halt in an episode of Top Gear had not actually run out of power. In a segment presented by Jeremy Clarkson, first broadcast on 14 December, the electric Tesla Roadster was seen being pushed into a garage while Clarkson talked about it running out of charge. However, last week a spokesperson for Tesla asserted that neither of the two vehicles being tested by the BBC programme had fallen below 20% of their battery power. It has since emerged that the scene in question was intended as a 'reconstruction' of what would have happened if the car had run out of power."Top Gear stands by the findings in this film and is content that it offers a fair representation of the Tesla's performance on the day it was tested," the BBC said in a statement, as reported by The Register.Despite the criticism of the car's staying power, the review was largely positive, with the Tesla beating a Lotus Elise in a drag race and prompting Clarkson to describe it as "broadband motoring".
