The votes have been counted and What Car? magazine has announced the modest Vauxhall Corsa Club 1.4 as its Car of the Year for 2007. Unlike some of the cars on the shortlist, the Corsa Club is a car available to those on even the most limited budget, and that goes the same for the cost of insuring it.
Leading insurance specialist, Admiral, looked at how much it would cost three average young motorists to insure the Corsa Club with itself and two other leading insurers. The good news is that it comes in at between £187 and £321.
What Car? praised the Vauxhall Corsa Club for being the best car in the toughest class of car, the supermini. It said of it, “From the moment we stepped inside the car, we knew it was a winner. Its quality hits you when you open the door.”
It describes the steering as ‘meaty’, the engine as ’caddishly smooth’ and the ride as ‘sublime’, but just how much does it cost to insure? The tables below reveal the annual premiums for three typical young drivers.

Sue Longthorn, managing director of Admiral, said, “When you look at the cars shortlisted by What Car? it illustrates what a great car the Corsa is. It can be purchased brand new for less than £10,000, yet it beat the new Golf at £15,000, the Audi TT at £24,000 and even the Porsche Cayman S at £44,000!
“It’s great to see an affordable car that is so highly acclaimed because of the quality of its build and drive, and our research shows that the affordability continues once you take it on the road.”
