South Wales-based car insurance company, Admiral is celebrating after
being named Business of the Year for Wales and the West Country at the
National Business Awards regional finals.
Admiral, which employs over 1,500 at its sites in Cardiff and Swansea,
was up against three other companies for the award; Composite Legal Expanses,
Integra Office Solutions and Redrow plc. It will now represent Wales and
the West Country in the national finals in November.
The Award was accepted by Admiral chief executive, Henry Engelhardt at
an awards ceremony in London last night. He said, "I'm delighted
that we've won this award. It represents the hard work more than 1,500
people put in every day to make Admiral a strong and successful company.
"The judges were impressed by our solid growth, our innovation within
the insurance industry and our unique culture. We are now looking forward
to representing Wales in the national finals in November where I hope
we will be successful."
The National Business Awards are designed to reward excellence in all
areas of business and are the premier awards of their kind in the country.
The Business of the Year is the main category in the awards and is open
to all companies no matter their size or turnover. Its judging criteria
is to find an outstanding organisation that has best demonstrated exceptional
financial returns, strong growth and innovation strategies, plus market
leadership in its sector.
2004 has been an exciting year for Admiral. In April the Company announced
its intention to float on the Stock Market in the autumn. This will mean
over 1,000 of its employees would benefit financially. It was also named
in the Sunday Times Top 100 Companies to Work For and the Financial Times
50 Best Workplaces in the UK and 100 Best Workplaces in the EU lists.
Admiral was also short-listed for the Employer of the Year award at last
night's awards ceremony, but was pipped to the post by Dwr Cymru Customer
Services.
