Watch out for Ben and Sophie and Dean and Natalie

Motorists named Ben and Sophie are the most likely to be involved in an accident, according to research carried out by insurance expert Admiral.

It looked at its database of over 230,000 accident claims from the last year to find out which men and which women were most likely to have an accident.  Top of the list for men were those named Ben, followed by Dean and then Alex.  For women, those named Sophie were the most likely to have an accident, followed by Natalie and Maria.

Instead of looking at the names with the highest number of accidents, Admiral looked at the names with the highest frequency of accidents.

Admiral managing director, Sharon Clarke, said: “Our results definitely show that motorists with some names had a higher probability of being involved in a car accident than those with other names.  There is no obvious reason for this, although some of these names are more common in younger people and as we all know, motorists under the age of 25 do have the most accidents.”

When it comes to the safest first names, men named Ian and women named Ann were the least likely to be in an accident according to Admiral.  On the whole men called Ian were 29% less likely to have an accident than those named Ben.  While women named Sophie were 32% less likely to be in an accident than those named Ann.

Sharon Clarke, commented: “Our research is just a bit of fun really, and I think I’d still rather get a lift from Ben Affleck than Ann Widdecombe if the opportunity arose!”
