The Quarterly Car Insurance Cost Survey - June 2004

The latest survey of car insurance prices reveals premiums have dropped in the last 3 months. Admiral's quarterly price survey for June shows that premiums have dropped by an average of 8.4% since its last survey in March.

Admiral compares the cost of comprehensive insurance for 32 typical drivers with 28 insurance companies to see how prices change every quarter. The survey gives an accurate picture of the trends in insurance premium costs. All of the UK's biggest insurers are surveyed including AXA, Churchill, Direct Line and Norwich Union as well as Admiral.

Amongst the findings in Admiral's latest survey:

• Young motorists and those with high performance cars have seen the biggest reductions in premiums
  
• Motorists over 40 have generally seen an increase in premiums
  
• Almost every example in Admiral's survey has seen a reduction in premiums
  
• Motorists in London still pay the highest premiums, but have seen the biggest reductions

Admiral managing director, Jane Stone, commented, "Our research goes to show how much insurance premiums fluctuate. It seems that all insurers have lowered their premiums as they try to compete with each other. This goes to show just how important it is to shop around for insurance.

"I'm sure most of the 30 million motorists on our roads assume the cost of insurance is set to rise, but as you can see this is not necessarily the case."
