Putting your children
on your policy

For young drivers, it's a frustrating fact that car insurance is very costly. Many parents like to help out by adding their children as named drivers on their own Admiral policy.

Great for young drivers

Admiral's Bonus Accelerator policy is suitable for drivers of all ages. However, younger drivers who haven't built up their No Claims Bonus yet really benefit.

This is a good idea in principle, as it allows your children to gain experience and start to build up an Admiral No Claims Bonus, at less cost than having their own experience. Don't forget you can add them as a named driver whether you have a Single-Car or MultiCar policy. And of course they could opt for the Admiral Bonus Accelerator, which gives them a year's No Claims Bonus in just 10 months. But there are a couple of things you should be aware of.

If your car is in one of the lower car insurance groups, the cost of adding your children will be relatively modest. But if you drive a Ferrari or one of the other cars in the highest insurance groups, it will add a lot to your premium or our underwriters might decline to accept adding your children.

The other point is to make sure you are still the main driver. If you say it's your car, but in reality your children are driving it everyday to work or university and you hardly ever use it, that could be considered fraudulent and the insurance may be invalid. In the long run, it pays to be honest!

If your son or daughter already has their own car, one way of helping to reduce the cost of insurance for them is to include their car on your MultiCar policy.
